Architektur

Moderne Literatur und Kunst – Die Halle wurde von dem Architekten Martin Elsaesser entworfen und war ein bedeutendes Beispiel für die Architektur der Moderne, mit Elementen des Expressionismus, Futurismus und der Neuen Sachlichkeit. Sie bestand aus einer stützenfreien Halle mit einer Länge von 220 Metern, einer Höhe von 23 Metern und einer Tiefe von 50 Metern. Das Dach bestand aus leichten Betonhalbzylinderschalen, die nach dem Torkret-Verfahren entwickelt wurden. Die Großmarkthalle wurde 1944 durch Bomben schwer beschädigt und zwischen 1947 und 1953 teilweise wiederaufgebaut. Heute ist sie ein geschütztes Denkmal und wurde in den letzten Jahren umfassend saniert. - Im Gelenk angebrochen. - Exlibris.
