Children's Books 192 - Neuausgabe des erstmals 1657 in zwei Teilen mit zus. 51 Tafeln erschienenen Werkes. - Reizende Darstellungen von Kinderspielen, darunter Ballspielen, Baden, Wippen, Würfeln, Kartenspiel etc. - Diese Edition aus Paris bei Chaise Jeune (ca. 1790-1800) ist eine seltene, reduzierte Fassung mit 12 Kupferstichen nach Stella, vollendet von Alexandre Chaponnier fils. Sie enthält revidierte und korrigierte Quatrains (Vierzeiler) sowie einen erklärenden Text, gedruckt auf dickem Papier. Die Tafeln illustrieren Spiele wie La Marelle a Cloche-Pied (Himmel-und-Hölle auf einem Bein), Les petits feux, L'escrime (Fechten), Les Dards (Pfeilwerfen), La Crosse, L'Escarpolete (Schaukel), L'Arbalète, La Course du Pot, Le Collin Maillard (Blindekuh), Le Traineau und Le Sabot. - Eine Seite mit kleinem Einriss am Rand, im vollen weißen Rand etwas fingerfleckig. Selten.
Childrens Books – An important contemporary visual source for knowledge of continental children's games in the seventeenth century (Pierpont). - With 12 copper engraving plates after Stella. - New edition of the work first published in 1657 in two parts with a total of 51 plates. - Charming depictions of children's games, including ball games, bathing, seesaws, dice, card games, etc. - This edition from Paris by Chaise Jeune (ca. 1790-1800) is a rare, abridged version with 12 copperplate engravings after Stella, completed by Alexandre Chaponnier fils. It contains revised and corrected quatrains (four-line verses) and an explanatory text, printed on thick paper. The plates illustrate games such as La Marelle a Cloche-Pied (hopscotch on one leg), Les petits feux, L'escrime (fencing), Les Dards (arrow throwing), La Crosse, L'Escarpolete (swing), L'Arbalète, La Course du Pot, Le Collin Maillard (blind man's buff), Le Traineau, and Le Sabot. - One page with a small tear at the edge, some finger stains in the full white margin. Rare.
