Pfauen. Zwei Papier-Pfauen als Wand- oder Festschmuck, um 1900. Hals, Kopf und Füße chromolithographiert, Körper aus lampionartig gefaltetem Papier in den Regenbogenfarben, Rad auf rotem bzw. grünem Krepp-Papier gemalt und mit Glimmer gehöht. Montiert auf ausgeschnittenem und mittig faltbarem Karton, rückseitig Griff bzw. Wandhalter aus Pappe mit biegsamen Verschlusslaschen aus Blech. Ca. 54 x 45 cm.

Kinderbücher – Privat- oder Verlagsananfertigungen, die chromolithographierten Teile aus einem Bilderbogen oder Kinderbuch ausgeschnitten. Die beiden Papier-Pfauen sind farbenprächtige, beidseitig bedruckte und gestanzte Wand- bzw. Festdekorationen aus dünnem Karton, wie sie um 1900 als "Papierschmuck" oder "Saalschmuck" für Wohnräume, Festsäle und Weihnachtsbäume sehr verbreitet waren. Der Körper ist jeweils als wabenartig Fächerkörper aus Seidenpapier (Honeycomb) ausgebildet, der zum Gebrauch aufgefaltet wurde, Schwanz und Standfläche sind flach bedruckt, sodass die Figur an Wand oder Tür gehängt oder aufgestellt werden konnte. Motivisch und drucktechnisch entsprechen sie dem typischen Programm der großen deutschen Bilderbogen- und Papierschmuck-Verlage dieser Zeit. Nach Stil, Farbigkeit (kräftige Anilinfarben, Goldakzente), Ausführung der Lithographie und dem charakteristischen Pfauenmotiv lassen sie sich am plausibelsten der Produktion von J. F. Schreiber in Esslingen zuordnen, der um 1890-1910 zahlreiche ähnlich aufgebaute Pfauen-, Truthahn- und Hahn-Wandschmucke mit Wabenpapierkörper herausgab Auf halbe Größe faltbar, die dünnen Papierlamellen des Körpers schließen sich dabei vollständig. Ausgeklappt mithilfe der Blechlaschen (1 fehlt) fixier- und aufhängbar. - Ränder mit kleinen Defekten, Glimmer abblätternd, sonst gut erhaltenes Epherema der Lithographie.

Childrens Books – Peacocks. Two paper peacocks for wall or festive decoration, circa 1900. Neck, head and feet are chromolithographed, the body is made of paper folded in a lantern-like shape in rainbow colours, the tail is painted on red or green crepe paper and highlighted with mica. Mounted on cut-out cardboard that folds in the middle, on the reverse, a handle or wall bracket made of cardboard with flexible metal fastening tabs. Private or commercial commissions involving the cutting out of chromolithographed sections from a picture sheet or children's book. The two paper peacocks are colourful, double-sided printed and die-cut wall or party decorations made of thin cardboard, of the kind that were very common around 1900 as 'paper decorations' or 'hall decorations' for living rooms, ballrooms and Christmas trees. The body of each is formed as a honeycomb-like fan structure made of tissue paper, which was unfolded for use, the tail and base are printed flat, so that the figure could be hung on a wall or door or stood upright. In terms of motif and printing technique, they correspond to the typical range of the major German picture sheet and paper decoration publishers of the time. Judging by their style, colour scheme (vibrant aniline dyes, gold accents), the execution of the lithography and the characteristic peacock motif, they can most plausibly be attributed to the production of J. F. Schreiber in Esslingen, who, around 1890-1910, published numerous similarly constructed peacock, turkey and rooster wall decorations with honeycomb paper bodies. Foldable to half size, the thin paper slats of the body close completely when folded. When unfolded, it can be secured and hung using the metal tabs (1 missing). - Edges with minor defects, mica flaking, otherwise a well-preserved ephemera of the lithograph
