Specimen of the Natural History of the various orders of Monks, after the Manner of the Linnaean System. Mit 3 gefalt. Kupfertafeln. London, Johnson, 1783. XXXII, 48 Seiten. Pappband d. Zt. mit Rückenschild (etwas fleckig u. bestoßen, Gelenke eingerissen, Kapitale mit kleinen Fehlstellen).

Jahrhunderts – Erste englische Ausgabe im Jahr der deutschen Erstausgabe, eine satirische Charakterisierung von Mönchen, angelgt als zoologisches Bestimmungsbuch nach Linné. - Lipperheide 1867 - ADB 3, 164 - Hayn-Got. V, 340 - Born war 5 Jahre Mitglied im Jesuitenorden und Mitglied von Adam Weishaupts Illuminatenordens. 1770 war er in der Freimaurerloge Zu den drei gekrönten Säulen in Prag aufgenommen worden, 1781 wurde er Mitglied und am 9. März 1782 Meister vom Stuhl der Wiener Loge Zur wahren Eintracht. Als|Führer der Freimaurer in Wien spielte er eine bedeutende gesellschaftliche Rolle im Zeichen der Aufklärung. B. ist der "Sarostro" der Zauberflöte. "Von dieser Einstellung ist seine temperamentvolle, wenig delikate Satire "Specimen Monachologiae" (1783) gegen die Klöster beherrscht, die in antiklerikalen Kreisen große Verbreitung erfuhr" (NDB). - Gelegentlich etwas fleckig, insgesamt gutes Exemplar.

Literature of 17th to 19th Century – First English edition in the year of the German first edition, a satirical characterisation of monks, angled as a zoological identification book after Linné. - Cont. boards with spine label (somewhat stained and bumped, joints torn, capitals with small missing parts).
