Jh.), unser Exemplar in zeitgenössischem Pergament mit prächtig ziseliertem Schnitt. - Brunet III, Sp. 596 ("plus complete que la précédante"). - Graesse, III, 496. - Vorliegend die zweite Auflage (zuerst 1583) der breitrandig und elegant gesetzten Ausgabe mit griechisch-lateinischem Paralleltext und Kommentar, der Titel in Rot und Schwarz gedruckt. - Flavius Claudius Iulianus (331-63, Regierungszeit 360-63), erfolgloser Verfechter einer Repaganisierung des unter seinem Großvater Konstantin hochoffiziell christlich gewordenen Römischen Reichs, gilt trotz seines frühen Todes als der literarisch produktivste römische Kaiser. - Provenienz: Christian Friedrich Franckenstein (1621-1679), mit dessen goldgepr. Wappensupralibro "Christianus Fridericus Franckenstein P.P." auf dem Vorderdeckel und dessen gestochenes Ex Libris mit Wappen und Inschrift "Insignia E Inertina (!)" auf dem Titelblatt verso. - Vorsätze, Titelei und letzte Bl. mit stärkerer, sonst durchgehend leichter Bräunung, sonst sehr gut erhaltenes Exemplar im gediegenen Adelseinband mit formidabler Punzierarbeit.

Literature of 17th to 19th Century – Collected works of the Roman Emperor Julian (4th ct.), our copy in contemporary parchment with magnificently gauffered edges. With engraved publisher's mark on title page as well as several initials, decorative borders and vignettes in woodcut, partly inhabited, mostly with floral decoration. - For references see above. - Present the second edition (first published in 1583), a wide-margined and elegantly typeset edition with a parallel Greek-Latin text and commentary, the title printed in red and black. - Flavius Claudius Julianus (331-63, reigned 360-63) is considered, despite his early death, the most prolific Roman emperor in terms of literature. - Provenance: Christian Friedrich Franckenstein (1621-1679), with his gilt-stamped coat of arms supralibro "Christianus Fridericus Franckenstein P.P." on the front cover and his engraved book-plate with coat of arms and inscription "Insignia E Inertina (!)" on the verso of the title page. - Endpapers, first and last leaves with more pronounced browning, otherwise consistently light browning, overall a very well-preserved copy in a fine aristocratic binding.
