Buchwesen - Faksimileausgaben – Eins von 980 nummerierten Exemplaren (GA 1060). - Das um 1324-1328 entstandene frühe Meisterwerk wurde von dem französischen König Karl IV. für seine Gemahlin Jeanne in Auftrag gegeben. Die einzigartigen Grisaille-Illustrationen stammen von Jean Pucelle. Es befand sich seit 1401 in der der Sammlung von Duc de Berry, dem Bruder Karls IV. Die in Demigrisaille gehaltenen Miniaturen sind der erste Versuch nördlich der Alpen, einen dreidimensionalen Raum ins Bild zu setzen. Die unzähligen Drôlerien, wie Löwenreptilien und Schlangenziegen, oder Drachen mit Mönchsköpfen, aber auch Vertreter aller sozialen Schichten wie Bauern, Schäfer und Ritter sind ein weiterer Höhepunkt. - Sehr gutes Exemplar.

With 25 full-page miniatures in demigrisaille as well as numerous drôleries, decorative initials and marginal ornaments. Orig. leather with rich gilt decoration, two silver clasps and gilt edges. Orig. cloth (Comm.). Together with a magnifying glass in a dark blue cloth box. - One of 980 numbered copies (total ed. 1060). - This early masterpiece, made around 1324-1328, was commissioned by the French King Charles IV for his wife Jeanne. The unique grisaille illustrations are by Jean Pucelle. It had been in the collection of Duc de Berry, brother of Charles IV, since 1401. The miniatures in demigrisaille are the first attempt north of the Alps to put a three-dimensional space into the picture. The countless drôleries, such as lion reptiles and snake-goats, or dragons with monks' heads, but also representatives of all social classes like peasants, shepherds and knights are another highlight. - Very good copy.
