Gemälde, Zeichnungen u. Grafiken 16. bis 19. Jhd. – Vgl.
Paintings, drawings and prints 16th to 19th century – Pencil on tissue paper. Inscribed on the underlying mat on both sides. Partially mounted on mat and set within a passe-partout. Framed behind glass. - Sheet slightly yellowed with very faint brown spots, traces of mounting in the corners. Overall very good. - Cf. Vittoria, the beautiful winegrower's daughter from Albano, in: Kestner, August: Roman Studies, Berlin, 1850, pp. 81-93. - Our work depicts a portrait of Vittoria Candida Rosa Caldoni (1805-1890), the daughter of a winegrowing family in Albano Laziale, Italy. Christian August Kestner undertook his first journeys to Italy around 1808, during which the lawyer, diplomat and archaeologist-later a draughtsman and art collector-developed his interest in the visual arts. In 1820, he met Caldoni, who from then on sat as a model for him and the painters and sculptors of the Roman artists' colony. For the German artists living in Rome, particularly the Nazarene group, the girl was regarded as the ideal image of feminine beauty and purity.
