Mit knappen Überschriften u. kommentierenden Distichen Lonicers. - Ohne Bl. D 1-2, F1, F3-4, G1-2, G4, H1, H4, L4, M2, M4, P4, R1 (recte Q1), S4, T3, V1, X4, a2, c3, d1-2. - Mit Einträgen u. Wappen von: Anna geb. von Canstein, Hans u. Adrianus von Unruh, Johan Lehman, K. von Adelevesen (Adelebsen), Johannes Christophorus von Taufkirchen zu Guttenberg, Albrecht von Schlieben, Nicolaus von Raussendorff, Werner von Schulenberg, Heinrich Bernhard Schenck zu Schweinsberg, Heinrich Borcke, Christianus Brockenhus, Adam von Seydlitz, Friedrich Steinhaus, Carl Du Four (Desfours) etc. - "Franz (1530/31-76) war als Söldnerführer in Frankreich wohlhabend geworden, seine Frau Anna geborene von Canstein (1536-91), erbaute auf dem Hof in Barntrup ein Schloß im Stil der Weserrenaissance." (NDB 11 (1977), S. 537). - Dabei: 3 später einmontierte Stammbuchblätter mit Einträgen des Historikers Caspar Sagittarius (1643-1694) in Jena 1689, des Theologe Aegidius Strauch (1583-1657) 1646 sowie von Heinrich Hilmar von Münchhausen 1631. - Finger- u. braunfleckig, einige tls. hinterlegte Einrisse, einige Bll. fehlend, 2 Wappen u. 2 Zeichnungen farbverschmiert, sonst insg. wohlerhalten.

In: See above. With wide woodcut title border, 1 woodcut portrait and 86 (of 103) full-page woodcuts (7 coloured) by Jost Ammann as well as woodcut printer's mark. Interleaved copy. 8 white leaves (5 at the beginning and 2 at the end with handwritten notes, 2 glued together), title page, 2 text leaves, plates, printer's mark. Contemp. leather on 4 raised bands, brown coloured parchment spine, blind tampes fillets, gilt borders with corner fleurons and coat of arms supralibros "Franciscus Rabanus Anton Georg v Kaerssenbruch" as well as the gilt initials FVK, RVK, AVK and GVK and the date 1586 (cover creased, rubbed, cover edges renewed). - The only separate edition of Amman's woodcut series for Titus Livius, the text of which first appeared in 1568. With brief headings and Lonicer's commentary distichs. - Without leaves D 1-2, F1, F3-4, G1-2, G4, H1, H4, L4, M2, M4, P4, R1 (recte Q1), S4, T3, V1, X4, a2, c3, d1-2. - With entries and coats of arms of: as listed above. - Included: 3 later inserted album leaves with entries by the historian Caspar Sagittarius (1643-1694) in Jena in 1689, the theologian Aegidius Strauch (1583-1657) in 1646, and Heinrich Hilmar von Münchhausen in 1631. - Finger- and brownstained, some partially repaired tears, some leaves missing, colours of 2 coats of arms and 2 drawings smeared, otherwise overall well preserved.
