Lot 1418 Sammlung von 39 Photographien …

Sammlung von 39 Photographien zum Schiff Wilhelm Gustloff. Um 1940. Silbergelatineabzüge, größtentls. auf Agfa-Brovira. 17,5 x 23,5 cm.

Schiffahrt

Insgesamt sehr gut erhaltene Sammlung.

Photography – Shipping. - Collection of 39 photographs of the ship Wilhelm Gustloff. Circa 1940. Silver gelatin prints, mostly on Agfa-Brovira paper. - The cabin passenger ship was built at Blohm & Voss in Hamburg and launched in 1937. A special feature of the interior, designed by Woldemar Brinkmann, was that the cabins for passengers and crew were structurally identical. The 208-meter-long ship had space for 1,471 passengers and 426 crew members. Although the ship was designed as a passenger ship, features such as the elevators were adapted for use as a hospital ship, designed to accommodate hospital beds. After the outbreak of war, the Wilhelm Gustloff was used as a hospital ship and sunk by a Soviet submarine in 1945. - The photographs show the interior and the ship itself, as well as images of the ship's construction. - Minor marginal lesions. Overall, a very well-preserved collection.
