Lot 1301 Marguerite Montaut. Les Dirigeables Parceval et …

Les Dirigeables Parceval et Gross en Manoeuvre à Cologne. 1909. Farblithographie auf Velin. 45 x 90 cm. Punktuell unter Passepartout montiert.

Deutschland - Nordrhein-Westfalen

Prints and Engravings - Views – Colour lithograph on laid paper. Partially mounted under a mat and framed behind glass. The sheet is slightly yellowed due to age, with some faint stains and a few small, scattered brown spots. Overall in very good condition with a magnificent, chalky print, the colours are fresh. - Printed by Mabille & Cie., Paris. - A colour lithograph by Marguerite Montaut, one of the leading illustrators of aviation before the First World War, depicting the airships 'Parcival' and 'Gross' against the skyline of Cologne, with the cathedral serving as a defining landmark. The juxtaposition of monumental airships with the densely detailed scenery on the riverbank reflects the contemporary experience of technological upheaval, which was perceived as a public spectacle and widely reported in the media.
