Zt. über 5 Bünden mit reicher Goldprägung bestehend aus Deckelfileten und floraler Ornamentik sowie Titel auf Rücken, Vorsätzen aus Steinmarmorpapier und umseitig marmoriertem Schnitt (an den Kapitale stärker bestoßen, an den Ecken und Kanten beschabt und berieben.)

Die Tafeln nach Originalen zahlreicher Künstler (u.a. W. H. Bartlett) und Textholzschnitte mit malerischen Landschaften und Ansichten von Schlössern, Klöstern sowie städtischen und dörflichen Szenerien. - Die kräftig gestochenen und gleichzeitig subtil kolorierten Karten mit Darstellungen u. a. von Cork, Kerry, Limerick, Tipperary, Dublin, Galway, Londonderry, sowie eine Überblickskarte von Irland. - Gestochene Titel der Bde. 1 und 2 leicht wasserrandig, Leicht gebräunt, stellenweise gering stock- und fingerfleckig. Grosso modo ein schmucker, sammelnswerter Exemplarsatz.
Geography and Travel – Second edition of this comprehensive, richly and gracefully illustrated work on Ireland. With 18 coloured maps, additional illustrated titles and around 100 plates, all steel-engraved, as well as around 500 woodcuts, some of which are full-paged. Bound in half-calf with gilt ornamental spine and richly marbled end papers and edges (partly rubbed and worn at corners and edges). - Holloway 63. - First published in 1841-43. The plates are based on original drawings by numerous artists (e.g. W. H. Bartlett) and wood-cuts with picturesque landscapes and views of castles, monasteries, as well as urban and rural scenes. - The boldly engraved and in the same time subtly coloured maps depict Cork, Kerry, Limerick, Tipperary, Dublin, Galway, Londonderry and others, an overview map of Ireland is also bound in. - Engraved titles of vols. 1 and 2 with minor water-staining at margins. Slightly browned, with minor foxing and finger stains in places. Overall, a handsome, collectable set.
