Naturwissenschaften – Nissen IVB 319a - ZBI 1390a - Sitwell, S. 96. - Mit den prachtvollen Chromolithographien zu den verschiedenen Vögeln aus aller Welt.Jede Tafel zeigt meist ein bis mehrere Vertreter einer Gruppe in charakteristischer Haltung, häufig in einfacher landschaftlicher Umgebung oder auf einem Ast, sodass Körperform, Gefiederfarben und Proportionen deutlich hervortreten. Die Chromolithographien sind im typischen Stil der Zeit fein konturiert und in klaren, teils kräftigen Tönen koloriert, der Fokus liegt auf der naturgetreuen Darstellung der äußeren Merkmale und weniger auf dramatischer Staffage. Fitzinger (1802-1884), Zoologe und langjähriger Mitarbeiter der Wiener Hofnaturalienkabinette, war ein bedeutender Vertreter der systematischen Zoologie im Habsburgerreich und veröffentlichte zahlreiche Arbeiten zur Klassifikation der Wirbeltiere, darunter mehrere Schriften zur Ornithologie. - Titelblatt etwas gebräunt und fleckig. Die Tafeln meist sauber und mit dem vollem weißen Rand.

Natural Sciences – Zoology. - Ornithology. - With 347 ills on 164 chromolithogr plates. - Featuring magnificent chromolithographs of various birds from all over the world. Each plate usually depicts one or more representatives of a group in a characteristic pose, often set against a simple landscape or perched on a branch, so that body shape, plumage colours and proportions are clearly highlighted. The chromolithographs are finely contoured in the typical style of the period and coloured in clear, sometimes bold tones, the focus is on the lifelike depiction of external features rather than on dramatic staging. Fitzinger (1802-1884), a zoologist and long-standing employee of the Vienna Court Natural History Collections, was a leading figure in systematic zoology within the Habsburg Empire and published numerous works on the classification of vertebrates, including several treatises on ornithology. - Title page slightly browned and stained. The plates are mostly clean and retain their full white margins.
