Naturwissenschaften – Eindrucksvolle Folio-Ausgabe des ersten und einzigen Drucks der frühesten Monographie über Seesterne (Echinodermen), mit einer der ersten umfassenden wissenschaftlichen Beschreibungen und Klassifikationen dieser Tiergruppe. Der Leipziger Apothekerfamilie Linck gelang es über drei Generationen hinweg (1670-1807), eine bedeutende private Naturaliensammlung aufzubauen, Johann Heinrich Linck der Ältere (1674-1734) nutzte die zahlreichen Seesterne, Haarsterne und Schlangensterne dieser Sammlung als Grundlage für seine hochgeschätzte Monographie. Das Werk stellt die erste monographische Behandlung der damals bekannten Arten von See-, Haar- und Schlangensternen dar, die Typusexemplare - teils aus den Tropen und dem Roten Meer - sind in Kupferstichen nach Naturvorlagen wiedergegeben und bis heute erhalten. Die Ausgabe wurde vom Philosophen und Naturforscher Christian Gabriel Fischer bearbeitet und kommentiert und vom bekannten Stecher Johann August Corvinus nach Zeichnungen Hildebrands illustriert. Drei Anhänge bringen einschlägige Texte von David Kade, René-Antoine Ferchault de Réaumur und Edward Lhuyd zur Anatomie, Beobachtung und Herkunft von Seesternen und verwandten Formen.

An impressive folio edition of the first and only printing of the earliest monograph on starfish (echinoderms), containing one of the first comprehensive scientific descriptions and classifications of this group of animals. Over the course of three generations (1670-1807), the Leipzig apothecary family Linck succeeded in building up an important private collection of naturalia, Johann Heinrich Linck the Elder (1674-1734) used the numerous starfish, feather stars and brittle stars from this collection as the basis for his highly esteemed monograph. The work presents the first monographic treatment of the species of sea stars, feather stars and brittle stars known at the time, the type specimens - some from the tropics and the Red Sea - are reproduced in copper engravings after nature and have been preserved to this day. The edition was edited and annotated by the philosopher and naturalist Christian Gabriel Fischer and illustrated by the well-known engraver Johann August Corvinus after drawings by Hildebrand. Three appendices reproduce relevant texts by David Kade, René-Antoine Ferchault de Réaumur and Edward Lhuyd on the anatomy, observation and origin of starfish and related forms.
