RTit. im zweiten von sechs Fächern, diese sonst ausgefüllt mit floralem Blindstempel, die Deckel blindgepr. mit zweifachen Filetenrahmen, die Mittelfelder aus geglätteten, mittels doppelten Fileten und Punktlinien gegliederten Rahmen einfassen (Vordergelenk im unteren Bereich angeplatzt, beschabt, bestoßen, Rücken stärker berieben).

Naturwissenschaften – Zweite englische Ausgabe des frühen zootomischen Werks von Perrault. - Garrison-Morton 295 ("important text on comparative anatomy") - Nissen 3125. - Russel 662. - Bedeutendes Werk der frühen Tieranatomie des französischen Gelehrten Claude Perrault (1613-88) in englischer Übersetzung, der erste Ausgabe 1688 erschienen war. Die Tafeln mit je einer Gesamt- und mehreren Teilansichten verschiedenster Tiere nach deren Sezierung durch die Pariser Königliche Akademie, deren Mitglied Perrault war. - Im letzten Drittel des Werkes findet sich ein umfangreicher, mit 5 exzellent radierten Tafeln illustrierter Beitrag des Astronomen John Picard (1620-82) über die Vermessung der Erde. - Provenienz: 1. Bibliothek der Earls of Hopetoun., mit deren heraldischem lithographischem Exlibris auf dem Vorderspiegel. 2. Modernes gedrucktes Exlibris mit dem Monogramm "DP" und 3 Nagern, ebenfalls montiert auf dem Vorderspiegel. - Buchblock im Vordergelenk angebrochen. Vorsätze leimschattig und mit verschiedenen kurzen hs. Einträgen älterer Natur, erste und letzte Seiten durchgehend gering gebräunt. Unter Beibehaltung eines ausreichenden weißen Randes dezent beschnitten. Im Schnitt stockfleckig, sonst wohlerhaltenes Exemplar mit kräftigem Druck und gratig radierten Tafeln auf meist reinweißem Papier.

Natural Sciences – Zoology. - Second English edition of Perrault's early work on zootomy, profusely illustrated with an engraved frontispiece and 35 copper engraved plates, some additionally etched. - For references see above. - An important work of early animal anatomy by the French scholar Claude Perrault (1613-88) in English translation, the first English edition of which appeared in 1688. The plates each contain a general and several partial views of various animals after their dissection by the Royal Academy of Paris, of which Perrault was a member. - The last third of the work with an extensive contribution by the astronomer John Picard (1620-82) on the measurement of the Earth, illustrated with 5 excellently etched plates. - Provenance: 1. Library of the Earls of Hopetoun., with their heraldic lithographic bookplate on the front pastedown. 2. Modern printed bookplate with the monogram "DP" and three rodents, also mounted on the front pastedown. - Book block partly cracked at the front hinge. Endpapers with glue stains and various short, older handwritten entries, first and last pages slightly browned throughout. Discreetly trimmed, retaining a sufficient white margin. Foxing along the edges, otherwise a well-preserved copy with strong printing and blurred etched plates on mostly pure white paper.
