Lot 100 Richard Voss. Eigenhändiger Brief mit …
Eigenhändiger Brief mit Unterschrift des Schriftstellers an Herrn von Dycke. Meran/Sanatorium Martinsbrunn, 24. Okt.
Autographs – Autograph letter signed by the author to Mr. von Dycke. - Richard Voss (1851-1918) was a successful author in German-speaking countries at the end of the 19th century. Although initially banned in the German Empire as an opposition writer, he later became a bestselling author. Today, however, his work has largely fallen into oblivion. His early works decisively shaped German Naturalism. In the 1880s, he was a celebrated playwright and his plays were performed alongside those of Ibsen. His novel "Two People" became a bestseller. Voss was a librarian and an expert on Italy, and moved in cultural centers such as Weimar, Berlin, Vienna, and Rome. Behind his dazzling life, he concealed a double life, which he had to lead as a homosexual and which was also reflected in his work. - Horizontal center fold, ink in the margin of 3 pages partially slightly smudged, otherwise well preserved.
