Street Art - Comics

Contemporary Art – (Self-portrait. For Gérard Dole.) Original drawing. Fiber pen in black on offset paper.Signed. In: Robert Crumb. - Well preserved and with clear, sharp contours. Original drawing for the musician and singer Gérard Dole. With dedication. - Robert Crumb's drawings are considered some of the most influential and idiosyncratic in the history of comics. They combine obsessive psychological self-questioning with a relentlessly critical observation of Western society and its neuroses. Covers and portraits for artists such as Chuck Berry, Bob Dylan, Frank Zappa, Grateful Dead, Artie Shaw, Bo Carter, and Blind Boy Fuller. His best-known work is the cover of Cheap Thrills (1968) by Big Brother and the Holding Company featuring Janis Joplin. Crumb's works are characterized by retro aesthetics, satirical humor, and detailed lines. He often uses nostalgic typography, emphasizes physicality and social types, and thus combines visual elements of the early 20th century with irony and subcultural wit. His works are now exhibited in museums (including MoMA, New York) and are considered prime examples of the fusion of comic and music history.
