Zeitgenössische Kunst – Das erste von nur 2 artist proof Exemplaren. - Aus: The American Series. - Oskar Schmidt widmet sich in seiner Werkreihe The American Series einer kritischen Auseinandersetzung mit kunst- und photohistorischen Fragestellungen. Als Ausgangsmaterial dienen ihm Aufnahmen von Walker Evans, die dieser in den 1930er Jahren im Auftrag der Farm Security Administration (FSA) während der Großen Depression im Süden der USA anfertigte. Schmidt überträgt diese prägenden Dokumentarphotographien in die Gegenwart, indem er ihre Schauplätze im Atelier in Originalgröße nachbaut und anschließend mit einer Großformatkamera neu interpretiert.

Back panel back signed, dated, titled, numbered and inscribed 'a.p.'. - Apparently in very well preserved condition, expressive, finely nuanced print. - The first of only two artist's proof copies. - In The American Series, Oskar Schmidt engages in a critical examination of issues relating to art and photographic history. As his source material, he uses photographs taken by Walker Evans in the 1930s on behalf of the Farm Security Administration (FSA) during the Great Depression in the southern United States. Schmidt transfers these influential documentary photographs into the present by recreating their settings in his studio in their original size and then reinterpreting them with a large-format camera.
