Lot 31 Robert Salomon Gessner. o.T. (Spiral-Komposition). Um …
o.T. (Spiral-Komposition). Um 1940. Gouache auf Karton. 31,5 x 24 (40,2 x 30 cm).
Geometrical Abstraction – Untitled (Spiral Composition). Circa 1940. Gouache on cardboard. Artist's stamp and old studio marks on the reverse. Rare early work. - The gouache is characterized by a clear, geometric-abstract design with concentric circles, segments, and areas of color, a diamond-shaped arrangement, and additional circles. The composition is strictly symmetrical and appears like a constructivist study of color dynamics and the interplay of surfaces and lines. Typical of Gessner are the clear color gradation, the precision of the geometric forms, and the mathematical-looking order. The gouache radiates a calm balance and is reminiscent of technical plans or symbolic diagrams. The style is unmistakable: constructive modernism with a penchant for meditative clarity. The work dates from his time as a lecturer at the Zurich School of Applied Arts, where he devoted himself intensively to geometric composition.
