Online - Photographie - Moderne Photographie – Jochen Gerz, geboren 1940 in Berlin, zählt zu den bedeutendsten Vertretern konzeptueller Kunst in Deutschland. Seine künstlerische Praxis verbindet Fotografie, Text und partizipative Elemente und setzt sich kritisch mit Erinnerung, Öffentlichkeit und dem Verhältnis von Geschichte und Gegenwart auseinander. Typisch für Gerz ist der Einsatz von Sprache als bildnerisches Mittel sowie die reflexive Einbindung des Publikums in den Kunstprozess. So enthalten auch die beiden uns vorliegenden Arbeiten einzelne, auf den Hintergrund collagierte Buchstaben, neben je einem grob ausgerissenen und ebenfalls auf den Bildgrund applizierten weißen Papierschnipsel. Die Gegenüberstellung von Bild und Text, Sichtbarkeit und Verdecken, verweist auf die Fragilität kollektiver Erinnerung und thematisiert das bewusste wie unbewusste Auslöschen von Geschichte.

Overall very good. - Jochen Gerz, born in Berlin in 1940, is one of the most important representatives of conceptual art in Germany. His artistic practice combines photography, text and participatory elements and takes a critical look at memory, the public sphere and the relationship between history and the present. Gerz is characterised by his use of language as a visual medium and the reflective involvement of the public in the art process. Thus, the two works presented to us also contain individual letters collaged onto the background, alongside a roughly torn-out white paper scrap that has also been applied to the background. The juxtaposition of image and text, visibility and concealment, refers to the fragility of collective memory and thematises the conscious and unconscious erasure of history.
