Besitzvermerken auf dem Vorsatz und Titelblatt. - Georg Scherer war ein starker Kritiker des Protestantismus und kritisierte dieses in seinen Predigten. Während er dabei Zustimmung in der Bevölkerung fand, so hinderten diese ihn bei der Ausführung seiner Aufgaben als Rektor des Wiener Jesuitenkollegs, von dessen Verpflichtung er 1594 entbunden wurde. Scherers Predigten und Schriften sind durch eine volkstümliche Sprache und Bildhaftigkeit geprägt. - Vorderen und hinteren Seiten stärker wurmstichig, minimal stockfleckig, tls. minimal wasserfleckig. Vorsatz des zweiten Bandes mit Ausriss. Insgesamt sehr saubere und gut erhaltene Exemplare.

Leather over wooden boards with mounted spine label, metal corner fittings, gold-stamped ornaments and inner edges, and metal clasps (rubbed, worm-eaten, one clasp missing from the first volume). - Very rare. - First complete edition of the works of the Tyrolean Jesuit, court preacher, and theologian Georg Scherer. - With handwritten ownership notes on the flyleaf and title page. - Georg Scherer was a strong critic of Protestantism and criticized it in his sermons. While he found popular approval, this prevented him from fulfilling his duties as rector of the Jesuit college in Vienna, from which he was released in 1594. Scherer's sermons and writings are characterized by popular language and imagery. The front and back pages are heavily worm-eaten, with minimal foxing and some minimal water stains. The endpaper of the second volume has been torn out. Overall, very clean and well-preserved copies.
