Moderne Literatur und Kunst – Einzige Ausgabe. - Seltene, nicht im Handel erschienene Publikation über den bedeutenden Berliner Unternehmer und Kunstmäzen (1849-1925), der fast den gesamten Handel mit schlesischer Steinkohle am Berliner Markt in seiner Hand hatte, Mitglied des Aufsichtsrates der Dresdner Bank war und von Kaiser Wilhelm II. 1913 als erster und einziger Juden in das Preußische Herrenhaus berufen wurde. Zu seinem Freundeskreis gehörten u.a. Max Liebermann, Arnold Böcklin und Adolph Menzel. Als größter bürgerlicher Kunstmäzen Berlins seiner Zeit stiftete er dem preußischen Staat 1913 die Villa Massimo in Rom als Kulturinstitut. - Mit abgedruckten Briefen von Paul Cassirer, Lovis Corinth, Ernst Haeckel, Max Liebermann, Max Klinger, Hans Thoma u.v.a. - Beiliegend: Visitenkarte mit Trauerrand von Arnholds Witwe Frau Eduard Arnhold mit Adresse Regentenstraße 19 in Berlin (Ecken tls. etw. angeknickt u. bestoßen) u. 2 Zeitungssausschnitte. - Papierbedingt leicht gebräunt, insg. wohlerhaltenes Exemplar.
Modern Literature and Art – Only edition. - With signed portrait etching by Emil Orlik, 4 collotype portraits and 1 facsimile. Orig. half leather with gilt top edge and gilt stamped label to spine (somewhat rubbed, spine slightly faded). - Rare, not commercially available publication on the important Berlin entrepreneur and patron of the arts (1849-1925), who controlled almost the entire trade in Silesian coal on the Berlin market, was a member of the supervisory board of the Dresdner Bank and was the first and only Jew to be appointed to the Prussian House of Lords by emperor Wilhelm II in 1913. His circle of friends included Max Liebermann, Arnold Böcklin and Adolph Menzel. As Berlin's greatest bourgeois patron of the arts of his time, he donated the Villa Massimo in Rome to the Prussian state as a cultural institute in 1913. - With printed letters from Paul Cassirer, Lovis Corinth, Ernst Haeckel, Max Liebermann, Max Klinger, Hans Thoma and many others - Enclosed: Visiting card with mourning border from Arnhold's widow Mrs. Eduard Arnhold with address Regentenstraße 19 in Berlin (corners somewhat creased and bumped in places) and 2 newspaper cuttings. - Slightly browned due to paper, overall well preserved copy.
