Jindra in gotischer Type kalligraphiert, vom Künstler (dreifach), Autor, Kalligraphen bzw. Verleger, teils mit Datum, signiert. Prag, 1943-49. 87 Bll. 4°. Hldr. und Schuber von Karel Dudesek. Schweinsldr. auf drei doppelten Bünden, dieser mit goldgeprägtem Rückentitel auf intarsiertem Lederschild, handgenähten Kapitalbändern, die Leinendecken überzogen mit einlagigem Knitterpapier, marmorierten Vorsätzen und Kopffarbschnit. Im Kartonschuber, die Decken überzogen mit blindgeprägtem, mehrfarbig aquarelliertem Papier (an den Ecken geringfügig bestoßen, etwas berieben, der Einbandrücken mit geringfügigen Kratzspuren).

Tschechische Bibliophilie 1918-1938. Masterarbeit. Prag, 2008, S. 109 (Obratil). - Unikat, der Text von Petr Bezruz (1867-1958), einer der Gründungstexte der modernen tschechischen Nationaldichtung, auf cremefarbigem, feinem Vélin mit einseitigem Schöpfrand unter Verwendung einer gotischen Type von Vladislav V. Jindra, der auch als Verleger zeichnet, im Jahr 1943 brillant kalligraphiert, und zwischen 1947 und 1949 nachträglich von Karel Svolinsky in Rot, Braun und Schwarz teils blattfüllend aquarelliert. Der meisterhafte Handeinband samt Schuber von Karel Dudesek. - Provenienz: Das einzigartige buchkünstlerische Objekt wurde von den Genannten im Auftrag von und für Karel Jaromir Obratil (1866-1945), den führenden tschechischen Sammler seiner Zeit, angefertigt. Obrátil, ein ehemaliger mährischer Schulmeister und verfolgter politischer Aktivist für Masaryk, besaß eine Reihe umfangreicher Sammlungen, darunter 2.400 Kunstwerke auf Papier, Autogramme, Drucke und Plakate sowie eine Bibliothek mit seltenen und bibliophilen Ausgaben, die 12.000 Bände und darüber hinaus 20.000 Exlibris umfasste. Er schrieb häufig über seine Sammlungen und stellte auch einige seiner Materialien für Veröffentlichungen zur Verfügung, insbesondere Stücke aus seiner bedeutenden Erotika-Sammlung. Obrátil wurde im April 1945 von den Nazis ermordet. Die Vollendung des außergewöhnliche Buchobjekts erlebte der Auftraggeber also nicht mehr. - Der am Ende eingebundene Herstellungsvermerk ist sowohl von Jindra und Bezruz, als auch von Svolinsky signiert, der auch mit 1947 und 1949 datierte. Auf einem danach eingebundenen Blatt aus feinem grauen Vélin mit Fasereinschlüssen findet sich ein von Svolinksy signiertes Widmungsblatt für Obratil. - Einige Blätter minimals fingerfleckig, insgesamt wohlerhaltenes museumswürdiges Prestigeobjekt der tschechischen Bibliophilie.

Modern Literature and Art – Unique manuscript edition of Bezruc's 'Silesian Songs', exquisitely handcrafted by artist, calligrapher and bookbinder. - With 21 water colours by Karel Svolinsky, two of which full-paged and several of which are large-format, the text calligraphied by Vladislav V. Jindra in Gothic type, signed by the artist (three times), author, calligrapher and publisher, some with dates. Binding and slipcase by Karel Dudesek with pigskin spine on three double raised bands, gilt ornamental title on inlaid leather label, hand-sewn headbands, linen covers covered with singl layered crinkled paper, marbled endpapers. In the original bookbinder's cardboard slip-case, the covers covered with blind-embossed, watercolour paper (slightly bumped at the corners, slightly rubbed, the spine with minor scratch marks). - Binding Not in Dudesek 1983, 1991 and 1996. - Cap, Daniel. Czech Bibliophilia 1918-1938. Master's thesis. Prague, 2008, p. 109 (Obratil). - Unique copy, the text by Petr Bezruz (1867-1958), one of the founding texts of modern Czech national poetry, on cream-coloured, fine vellum with one-sided deckle edge, using a Gothic typeface by Vladislav V. Jindra, who also worked as a publisher, brilliantly calligraphied in 1943 and subsequently watercoloured in red, brown and black by Karel Svolinsky between 1947 and 1949, partly filling the page. The masterful hand-bound cover and slipcase are by Karel Dudesek. - Provenance: This unique book art object was created by the aforementioned artists on behalf of and for Karel Jaromir Obratil (1866-1945), the leading Czech collector of his time. Obrátil, a former Moravian schoolmaster and persecuted political activist for Masaryk, owned a number of extensive collections, including 2,400 works of art on paper, autographs, prints and posters, as well as a library of rare and bibliophile editions comprising 12,000 volumes and over 20,000 bookplates. He frequently wrote about his collections and also made some of his materials available for publication, in particular pieces from his significant collection of erotica. Obrátil was murdered by the Nazis in April 1945. The client therefore did not live to see the completion of this extraordinary book object. The production note bound at the end is signed by Jindra and Bezruz, as well as by Svolinsky, who also dated it 1947 and 1949. On a sheet of fine grey vellum with fibre inclusions bound in afterwards, there is a dedication page signed by Svolinksy for Obratil. - Some sheets have minimal finger stains, but overall this is a well-preserved, museum-worthy prestige object of Czech bibliophilia.
