12 Zeichnungen als Original-Illustrationen für Blaise Cendrars "Kleine Negermärchen". 1960. Je Tuschfederzeichnungen, teils über Bleistift und partiell weiß gehöht, auf glattem Velin. Blattmaße von 23,9 x 17 cm bis 29,2 x 21 cm. 11 Arbeiten je monogrammiert, 2 datiert. Zusätzlich mit werkimmanenten Annotationen für Anordnung, Umsetzung und Druck von fremder Hand in Blei- und Buntstift. 11 Arbeiten an der oberen Kante mit Perforierung. - Ecken teils angestoßen. Etwas lager- und griffspurig. teils leichte Knick- und werkimmanente Atelierspuren. 1 Arbeit unten mit bräunlich-wässrigem Fleck bzw. 1 Arbeit an der oberen, rechten Kante mit kleiner Fehlstelle und 1 Arbeit mit kurzem Randeinriss (ca. 1 cm). Unter UV keine Retuschen erkennbar. Insgesamt gut. Tiefschwarze und schön glänzende Zeichnungen, detailreich ausgearbeitet. Alle 12 Zeichnungen sind als Illustration in "Kleine Negermärchen" abgebildet.

Moderne Literatur und Kunst – Provenienz: - Privatbesitz, Nordrhein-Westfalen. - Direkt aus dem Nachlass des Verlages Karl Rauch erworben. - Die Zeichnungen Ernst Otto Köpkes dienten als Vorlage für die Illustration für Blaise Cendrars "Kleine Negermärchen" von 1960. Es zählt zu den letzten Werken, die Cendrars veröffentlichte bevor er 1961 verstarb. Der Schweizer Dichter und Schriftsteller Cendrars erzählt in 10 Märchen von einem unbekannten, phantastischen Ort und seinen Bewohnern und Tieren wie Krokodilen, Pavianen und Löwen, aber auch Fabelwesen wie sprechenden Bäumen oder Schutzgeistern. Die Protagonisten erleben Abenteuer und müssen Lebensprüfungen bestehen. Ernst Otto Köpkes Illustrationen stellen insofern eine Besonderheit dar, als dass kein anderes Projekt bekannt ist, bei dem der Künstler als Illustrator tätig war und Köpke vor allem für seine Glasmalerei in öffentlichen Bauten und Kirchen bekannt wurde. In detaillierten, sicher ausgeführten Arbeiten mit Feder in tiefschwarzer Tusche erblicken wir exotische Mischwesen zwischen Flora und Fauna. Einflüsse lassen sich von afrikanischen Masken und Körperornamenten erkennen, sodass Köpke vermutlich Typologie und Stilistik der diversen afrikanischen Kunst für seine Illustrationen interpretierte und sich dicht an Text und Handlungsstrang der Geschichte orientierte. Blaise Cendrars Gesamtwerk wurde bis auf eine Ausnahme zuerst vom Verlag Karl Rauch veröffentlich, wo auch "Kleine Negermärchen" 1961 erschien.

Each pen and ink drawing, partly over pencil and partially heightened in white, on smooth wove paper. 11 works each monogrammed, 2 dated. Additionally with annotations for arrangement, realisation and printing in pencil and coloured pencil by an unknown hand. 11 works with perforation to upper edge. - Corners partially bumped. Some traces of storage and handling. Some slight creases and studio traces inherent to the work. 1 work with brownish watery stain at the bottom and 1 work with small loss at the upper right edge and 1 work with short marginal tear (approx. 1 cm). No retouching recognisable under UV. Good overall. Deep black and beautifully glossy drawings, elaborated in great detail. All 12 drawings are illustrated in "Kleine Negermärchen". - Provenance: - Private property, North Rhine-Westphalia. - Acquired directly from the estate of the publisher Karl Rauch. - Ernst Otto Köpke's drawings served as a model for the illustration for Blaise Cendrars' "Kleine Negermärchen" from 1960, one of the last works published by Cendrars before his death in 1961. In 10 fairy tales, the Swiss poet and writer Cendrars tells of an unknown, fantastical place and its inhabitants and animals such as crocodiles, baboons and lions, as well as mythical creatures such as talking trees and guardian spirits. The protagonists experience adventures and have to pass life tests. Ernst Otto Köpke's illustrations are special in that no other project is known in which the artist worked as an illustrator and Köpke is best known for his stained glass in public buildings and churches. In detailed, confidently executed works in pen and deep black ink, we see exotic hybrid creatures between flora and fauna. Influences from African masks and body ornaments can be recognised, so that Köpke presumably interpreted the typology and style of diverse African art for his illustrations and oriented himself closely to the text and plot of the story. With one exception, Blaise Cendrar's complete works were first published by Verlag Karl Rauch, where "Kleine Negermärchen" was also published in 1961.
