Ungarn

History – Impressive xylographic panorama roll printed from 7 wood-blocks on voluminous wove paper. - The most monumental work, wood-engraved by the renowned engraver and later director of the Budapest School of Arts and Crafts, Gustáv Morelli, depicts a detailed reproduction of the 'Feszty Panorama', a 50 x 120 metre circular painting in oil on canvas by the Hungarian painter Árpád Feszty (1846-1914), covering an area of almost 1,800 m². Feszty's panorama was painted for the millennium celebrations in 1896 and shows the conquest of Hungary by the Magyars under Grand Duke Árpád (around 845-907). - Missing ist the original cloth slipcase, in which the sheets were originally inserted as a folding panorama, and the 4 accompanying text sheets. - Margins with some (partly backed) marginal tears, in parts somewhat creased, with light shelf-wear and occasionally foxy. Overall a well-preserved item of respectable length, the wood-engraving strong and rich in contrast throughout.
