Le Metamorfosi. Ridotte da Gio.(vanni) Andrea dall'Anguillara in ottava rima. Di nuovo dal proprio autore rivedute, & corrette. Con gli argomenti di M. Francesco Turchi. Mit Druckermarke auf dem Titelblatt, 14 (v. 15) Textillustrationen und zahlreichen Vignetten, alles im Holzschnitt. Venedig, Paulo Zanfretti für Pietro Deuchino Nfg., 1582. 1 Bl. (2. flieg. Vors.), 486 num. Bl., 2 Bl. (Index). 12° (10,5:5 cm). Ldr. d. Zt. auf 3 erhabenen Bünden über Holzdeckeln mit RTit. auf Lederschildchen u. blindgepr. Fileten auf Decken. Reste einer Metallschließe.

Klassische Philologie

Alte Drucke, Bibeln, Klassische Autoren in den Originalsprachen – Seltene Taschenausgabe von Ovids Opus Magnum. - Edit 16, 47167 - Im Handel selten, für uns keinerlei Auktionsergebnisse nachweisbar. - Die Übersetzung aus dem Lateinischen für diese venezianische Ausgabe besorgte der Dichter Giovanni Andrea dell'Anguillara, der Gelehrte Francesco Turchi steuerte philologische Kommentare bei. - Jedes der 15 Bücher von Ovids Epos wird mit einer kleinen Holzschnittillustration eines ungenannten Künstlers eingeleitet. - Provenienz: 1. Zweiter flieg. Vors. verso mit Besitzervermerk ("Dal. Pte. Don / Franco Bornico / Primissario / D'Arco / 1790"). 2. Stefano Tarra, mit dessen (?) skizziertem Familienwapen als Ex-Libris. - Bl. 203 mit Titel und Holzschnitt zur Einleitung des 7. Kapitels fehlt. - Einband mit leichten Gebrauchsspuren, an den Ecken leicht bestoßen, Rücken gering wurmstichig. Einige Bl. durchgehend wasserfleckig, mit Paginierungsfehlern: "169" liest '1 9', '266' liest '226', insgesamt solides Exemplar dieser seltenen, sammelwürdigen Ausgabe im niedlichen Taschenformat.

Prints before 1600, Bibles, Classics in Original Languages – Classics. - With printer's emblem on title page, 14 (of 15) text illustrations as well as numerous chapter vignettes, all in wood-cut. - Rare pocket edition of Ovid's opus magnum in Italian "ottava rima". - Edit 16, 47167. - Scarce in trade, no auction results traceable at all. - The translation from Latin for this Italian edition was executed by the poet Giovanni Andrea dell'Anguillara, the scholar Francesco Turchi contributed philological comments. - Each of the 15 books of Ovid's narrative poem are introduced with a tiny woodcut illustration by an unnamed artist. - Provenance: 1. 2nd fly leaf with owner's remark ("Dal. Pte. Don / Franco Bornico / Primissario /D'Arco / 1790"). 2. Stefano Tarra, with his (?) sketched family coat of arms. - Leaf 203 with title and woodcut for 7th chapter missing. - Leather binding with some minor wear, slightly bumped at corners, spine with one small worm whole, the clasp is missing, some pages and edges all water-stained, with pagination errors: "169" reads "1 9", "266" reads "226", generally a solid copy of this rare miniature book.
