Buchwesen - Faksimileausgaben – Die Handschrift, die aus der Sammlung des Budapester Rabbiners Davi Kaufmann entstammt, ist wohl Mitte des 18. Jahrhunderts in Italien entstanden. Sie besticht durch die für Esther-Rollen (Megilla) typische reiche Ausschmückung und gehört zu den wichtigsten Schriften des Judentums. Die Geschichte der Esther wird am Purim-Fest öffentlich in der Synagoge gelesen und reflektiert die Befreiung der Juden aus Persien, die auch das Fest zum Gegenstand hat. Kaufmann (1852-1899) war Professor am Rabbinerseminar in Budapest und führte neben seiner Sammelleidenschaft eine umfangreiche Korrespondenz mit jüdischen Gelehrten seiner Zeit.
