Ansicht einer Stadt in ländlicher Umgebung. Um 1790. Federzeichnung und Aquarell auf Bütten. 44,1 x 65,5 cm. Unterhalb der Darstellung signiert "Vandamme" sowie bezeichnet "Messidor" und "Par Hogard (?), Sécrétaire du Géneral de Division".

Dekorative Graphik - Ansichten – Idyllische Spätsommeransicht eines kleinen Städtchens, dessen Silhouette geprägt ist von prachtvollen Sakralbauten sowie einigen Windmühlen, was die Szene möglicherweise nach Flandern verorten lässt. Im Vordergrund mit prachtvollen, erntereifen Feldern sowie einigen arbeitenden Bauern. - Die Signatur "Vandamme" kann möglicherweise Dominique Joseph Vandamme zugeschrieben werden, einem in den Napoleonischen Kriegen tätigen französischen General. Er galt als außergewöhnlich furchtlos und tapfer. - Mit gegl. Mittelfalz, papierbedingt angebräunt (auch verso), in den Ecken etw. knickspurig u. fingerfleckig, oben rechts mit kl. Einstichlöchlein, partiell etw. stockfleckig. Insgesamt gut. Fein ausgeführte Zeichnung in feiner Aquarellierung.

Signed "Vandamme" below the motif and inscribed 'Messidor' and 'Par Hogard (?), Sécrétaire du Géneral de Division'. - Idyllic late summer view of a small town whose silhouette is characterized by magnificent sacral architecture and several windmills, possibly locating the scene in Flanders. In the foreground with lush fields ripe for harvest and some farmers at work. The signature "Vandamme" can possibly be attributed to Dominique Joseph Vandamme, a French general who served in the Napoleonic Wars. He was considered exceptionally fearless and brave. - With a smoothed centre fold, browned due to paper (also on the reverse), some creases and finger stains in the corners, a small pin hole in the upper right, partially stained a. foxed. Overall in good condition. Finely executed drawing in delicate watercolouring.
