Sammlung von 3 Ansichten von St. Petersburg. Panoramic View of St. Petersburg. Dedicated by Permission to his Imperial Majesty Alexander 1st. Um 1805. Altkolorierte Aquatinta auf festem Velin. Je ca. 38 x 76 cm.
Dekorative Graphik - Ansichten – Sehr selten. - Blatt 1-3 aus einem Zyklus von 4 Panoramen mit Blick vom Turm der Akademie der Wissenschaften. Die großen Drucke zeigen drei Ansichten von St. Petersburg, mit u. a. Blick über die Newa zum Marble Palace, dem Winter Palais, dem Denkmal von Peter dem Großen, der Isaakkirche, dem Admiralitätskomplex, sowie den Gebäuden der 12 Institute. - John Augustus Atkinson war der Neffe von James Walker, dem Kupferstecher von Katharina der Großen, weßhalb er mit knapp 10 Jahren von London nach St. Petersburg zog, wo er dann studierte und seine ersten Arbeiten im Auftrag des Königshauses anfertigte. - Rand sichtbar beschnitten, minimale Randläsuren. Leicht fleckig. Ränder grau laviert. Aufgezogen. Insgesamt prachtvoller und detailreicher Druck. Fein gearbeitete Aquatinta in schönem Kolorit.

Old-colored aquatint on heavy wove paper. - Very rare. - Sheets 1-3 from a cycle of 4 panoramas with a view from the tower of the Academy of Sciences. The large prints show three views of St. Petersburg, including a view across the Neva to the Marble Palace, the Winter Palace, the monument to Peter the Great, St. Isaac's Church, the Admiralty complex, and the buildings of the 12 institutes. - John Augustus Atkinson was the nephew of Catherine the Great's engraver James Walker, which is why he moved from London to St. Petersburg at around 10 years old, where he studied and produced his first works commissioned by the royal family. - Edges visibly trimmed, minimal marginal wear. Slightly stained. Edges washed gray. Mounted. Overall, a magnificent and detailed print. Finely crafted aquatint in beautiful color.
