Photography – Collection of 23 press photographs by photographer Edward Quinn (1920-1997) for a photo reportage by reporter Jean-Paul Ollivier (1923-2007) for Paris Match on the occasion of the 80th birthday of writer William Somerset Maugham (1874-1965). Silver gelatin prints. - Each with the photographer's stamp on verso and probably inscribed by J.-P. Ollivier. - Most of the photos were taken by Quinn in 1954 in and around Somerset Maugham's Villa Mauresque. They show him at his desk, in the entrance hall, on the staircase, in the patio, with his paintings (Picasso, Matisse, Renoir, Utrillo), reading in the garden, several times with his secretary Alan Searle, his domestic staff or as host to Hamish Erskine and the pianist Viscountess Moore. Some of the photographs, such as the photo of his school building, a school photo, photos with Wells and Winston Churchill (1937) or of an invitation to the British writer Lady Juliet Duff (1881-1965) with Lord Andrew Cavendish, Duke of Devonshire (1920-2004), and Lord David Cecil (1902-1986) with his wife, are older and reproduced by Quinn. - In add.: 1 further, smaller photo. Verso with copyright stamp 'belongs to Vogue' and inscription. - Corners mostly slightly bumped, occ. small corner tears and minimal silvering in places, otherwise overall well preserved and rare photo series from the life of the famous writer.
