Urkunde auf Pergament zur Ernennung von David Christoph Mettlerkamp (1774-1850) zum Ehrenmitglied der Gesellschaft der Freunde des vaterländischen Schul- und Erziehungswesen. Kalligraphisch gestaltete, tls. farbig rubrizierte deutsche Handschrift in goldgehöhter gouachierter floraler Bordüre mit einer großen goldfarbenen Initiale, diese in einer Gouache die Göttin Athene zeigend, sowie 2 Wappendarstellungen (u.a. Hamburger Stadtwappen). Hamburg, 8. Okt. 1845. 1 Bl., an den umgeklappten w. Rändern auf Holz genagelt (stellenw. gelöst). Ca. 30,5 x 41,5 cm. Mit in Bohrung an Kordel angehängtem Teil einer hölzernen Siegelschatulle (ohne Gegenstück und ohne Siegel). Eingelegt in Holzkiste (ca. 4 x 44 x 44 cm) mit Deckel u. 2 Metallschließen.

Manuskripte und Urkunden – Mettlerkamp, "Obristlieutenant a.D. Ritter des K. Russ. St. Wladimir des K. Schw. Schwert Ordens-Chef der Hamb. Bürgergarde während des Feldzuges von 1813-14", war u.a. als Bleideckermeister Hersteller von Blitzableitern und wurde durch seine Analyse eines Blitzeinschlags in den Turm des Ratskellers in Harburg bekannt. Er war Befehlshaber der siegreichen Hanseatischen Bürgergarde und galt als Hamburger Volksheld. - ADB 21 (1885), S. 527f. - NDB 17 (1994), S. 244f. - Die auf Peter Breiß zurückgehende und 1805 gegründete Gesellschaft der Freunde des vaterländischen Schul- und Erziehungswesens, deren Zweck die Verbesserung der materiellen Versorgung von Lehrern und die Fortbildung seiner Mitglieder war, gilt als einer der ältesten Lehrervereine der Welt. Ein dazugehöriger Lesezirkel sollte seine Mitglieder mit pädagogischen Neuerscheinungen versorgen. - Mit tls. eh. U. u.a. von Joh. Andreas Schlüter (Propenent), P.O.H. Pepper (Assistent d. Manuscripts – Parchment certificate appointing David Christoph Mettlerkamp (1774-1850) as an honorary member of the 'Society of Friends of Patriotic Schooling and Education'. Calligraphically designed, partly coloured German manuscript in gold heightened gouache floral border with a large gold heightened initial, this showing the goddess Athena, as well as two coats of arms (including the Hamburg city coat of arms). Nailed to wood on the folded white edges (loose in places). With part of a wooden seal box attached to a cord (without counterpart and without seal). Placed in a wooden box with lid and 2 metal clasps. - Mettlerkamp was, among other things, a master lead roofer and manufacturer of lightning conductors and became known for his analysis of a lightning strike on the tower of the Ratskeller in Harburg. He was commander of the victorious Hanseatic Citizens' Guard and was considered a Hamburg folk hero. - The 'Society of Friends of Patriotic Schooling and Education', founded in 1805 by Peter Breiß, whose purpose was to improve the material provision for teachers and the further training of its members, is considered one of the oldest teachers' associations in the world. - An associated reading circle was supposed to provide its members with new educational publications. - With partly original signatures as listed above. - Occasional small marginal tears, some minor foxing and soiling, otherwise Overall well preserved with beautiful and decorative colouring. - In add.: as listed above. Colourful paper cover with mounted luxury paper vignette (rubbed and slightly creased).
