Manuskripte und Urkunden – Dörrien (1746 Herzberg - 1813 Leipzig) studierte ab 1764 Rechte an der Universität Göttingen. Danach soll er als Führer einiger Edelleute nach Leipzig gekommen sein. Wohl 1777 war er dort Postangestellter, ist zum Oberpostkommissar aufgestiegen und wurde später zum Oberpostdirektor und Kammerrat und schließlich zum Geheimen Kammerrat befördert. Er übersetzte gemeinsam mit Christian Garve (1742-1798) aus dem Englischen u.a. Adams Smiths "Untersuchungen über die Natur und Ursachen des Nationalreichthums". Laut Meusel soll er auch Übersetzer der Briefe über Lessings Emilie Galotti, in "Engel's Philosophen für die Welt" sein. Dörrien war ab 1769 Freimaurer in Bremen, ab 1772 unter dem Ordensnamen Eginhard Mitglied der Leipziger Loge "Minerva zu den drei Palmen". Zudem war er 1777-1791 auswärtiges Mitglied der 1767 gegründeten Loge "Zum silbernen Schlüssel". Seine Ehefrau wurde Anna Dufour (1753-1809). - Mit Einträgen u.a. von: Heinrich (Friedrich) Graf von Baudissin (1753-1818, Reichsgraf, dän. Botschafter in Berlin), Christian Friedrich Boerner (1736-1800, Arzt, Sohn des gleichn. bekannten Theologieprof.), Franz von Bosc (*1722), Johann Heinrich Cramer (1736-1804, Buchhändler in Bremen, Verleger Klopstocks u. Lessings), Jacques Marc Antoine Dufour (1737-1805, Kaufmann, Vater von Dörriens Gattin), Johann Georg Eck (1745-1808, Philologe, Prof. in Lpz.), Friedrich Gotthilf Freitag (1723-1776, Jurist, Bürgermeister von Naumburg), Bartholomäus Grovermann (1741-1819, Kaufmann, hess. Konsul), Joachim Friedrich Hartmann (1750-1808, Pfarrer), Samuel Freiherr von Kemény (um 1760-1817, Präs. d. Siebenbürgischen Ständetafel)), Johann Joachim Gottfried Joseph von Kuntzsch (um 1742 - nach 1782, Freund Lessings), Johann Hermann Lanting, Joseph von Lénárt (*1746), Georg August Marche (1738-1783, Jurist), Heinrich Hermann Meyer (1730-1782, Mitgl. des Bremer Senats, Vater des Senators u. Freimaurers Volchart Meier (1761-1811)), August Polycarp (ab 1776 Ritter und Edler) Leyser (1736-1788, Kaufmann, Bankier), August Friedrich Rulffs (1736-nach 1800, Tabakfabrikant), Carl Gustav von Samson (1750-1825, livländ. Landrat), Carl Heinrich III. Graf von Schönburg (1757-1815), Jacob Friedrich Schultz (Kaufmann, gilt neben Rulffs als Mitbegründer der Bremer Loge "Zum silbernen Schlüssel"), Carl Friedrich Trier (1726-1794, Jurist, Ratsherr). - Kleisterpapier-Vorsätze. - Vereinzelt winzige Stockflecken, insg. wohlerhaltenes, dekoratives Exemplar.

Manuscripts – Bremen - Lower Saxony - Saxony - Liber amicorum of the Freemason August Gottlieb Dörrien with 31 entries from brothers of various Masonic lodges. Gilt stamped blue vellum with gilt edges in contemp. cardboard slipcase covered with paste paper (slightly rubbed). gold edging and rich floral gold embossing in contemporary paperboard slipcase covered with paste paper (slightly rubbed). - Dörrien (1746 Herzberg - 1813 Leipzig) studied law at the University of Göttingen from 1764 onwards. He is then said to have come to Leipzig as the guide of several noblemen. In 1777, he was a postal employee there, rose to the rank of senior postal commissioner and was later promoted to senior postal director and chamber councillor and finally to privy chamber councillor. Together with Christian Garve (1742-1798), he translated Adam Smith's 'An Inquiry into the Nature and Causes of the Wealth of Nations' from English. According to Meusel, he is also said to have translated the letters about Lessing's Emilie Galotti in 'Engel's Philosophen für die Welt' (Engel's Philosophers for the World). Dörrien was a Freemason in Bremen from 1769 and, from 1772, a member of the Leipzig lodge 'Minerva zu den drei Palmen' (Minerva of the Three Palms) under the order name Eginhard. From 1777 to 1791, he was also an external member of the lodge 'Zum silbernen Schlüssel' (To the Silver Key), which was founded in 1767. - With entries including, among others: as listed above. - Paste paper endpapers. - Occ. tiny foxing spots, overall well preserved, decorative copy.
