Europa
Geographie und Reisen – Erste deutsche Ausgabe. - Embacher 86 - Engelmann 252 - Cox 185f. - Bd. I-II leicht stockfleckig, sehr gut erhaltene Exemplare. Seiten des 3. Bd. stärker gebräunt, Tafeln gut erhalten. Insgesamt sehr schöne, vollständige Exemplare.
Geography and Travel – 3 vols. Each with a title vignette, 1 folded table and 12 (of which 9 folded) copper plates and maps. Contemp half leather with gilt stamped ribbed boards and color edges (rubbed and bumped, partly slightly stained). - First German edition. - Embacher 86 - Engelmann 252 - Cox 185f. Complete series with the often missing 2nd volume, which describes Coxe's second journey to Scandinavia. - Coxe accompanied English noblemen on their travels and reports very vividly, precisely and critically on the social, political and cultural conditions in the countries he visited. - The translation was carried out by the politically-minded writer Johann Pezzl, who had just been forced to flee Bavaria because of his satirical attacks. - With plans of Moscow, St. Petersburg, Stockholm and Copenhagen, maps of the Caspian Sea, southern Norway and various canals etc.. - Volumes I-II slightly foxed, very well-preserved copies. Pages of the 3rd vol. more heavily browned, plates in good condition. Overall very nice, complete copies.
