London, Virtue, (1880-1884). Zus. ca. 950 S. 4°. HLdr. d. Zeit mit dreis. Goldschnitt, goldgepr. RSchildern, reicher RVergold. u. Goldfileten (beschabt u. bestoßen, tls. lichtrandig u. fleckig, Rücken fleckig, davon einer mit Fehlstelle im Bezug, Gelenke tls. etw. angeplatzt), Innendeckel mit Buchbinderetikett von Broadbere, Bargate, Southampton.

Geographie und Reisen – Ibrahim-H. II, 334ff. - Beschreibt auch den Libanon und das südwestliche Syrien einschließlich Damaskus. - Die Stahlstiche (überwiegend nach Vorlagen von H. Fenn und J.D. Woodward) in kräftigen klaren Drucken mit Ansichten von Jerusalem, Bethlehem, Nablus, Nazareth, Jericho, Beirut, Baalbek, Palmyra, Jaffa, dem Berg Karmel, Caesarea, Hebron, Gaza, den Pyramiden von Gizeh, Luxor, dem Tempel von Karnak u.a. - Das aufwendige und repräsentative Werk entstand unter Mitwirkung exzellenter Fachgelehrter. - Mit Besitzvermerk von Arthur Henry Phillips Hayward (dat. 1889), Innengelenke tls. angeplatzt, papierbedingt gering gebräunt, tls. etwas fingerfleckig, insg. wohlerhalten.

Geography and Travel – Palestine, Sinai and Egypt. 4 vols. With 4 ill. steel engraved titles, 38 steel engraved plates, numerous wood engravings in the text and on plates as well as 2 double, two-coloured maps. Contemp. half leaher with gilt edges, gilt stamped title to spine, rich spine gilt and gilt fillets (rubbed and bumped, some light-staining and spotting, spines stained, one with missing part in covering, joints partly somewhat chipped), inner cover with bookbinder's label from Broadbere, Bargate, Southampton. - Also describes Lebanon and south-western Syria including Damascus. - The steel engravings (mainly after models by H. Fenn and J.D. Woodward) in strong, clear prints with views of Jerusalem, Bethlehem, Nablus, Nazareth, Jericho, Beirut, Baalbek, Palmyra, Jaffa, Mount Carmel, Caesarea, Hebron, Gaza, the pyramids of Giza, Luxor, the temple of Karnak, etc. - This lavish and representative work was produced with the assistance of excellent experts. - With ownership note by Arthur Henry Phillips Hayward (dated 1889), inner hinges partially chipped, slightly browned due to paper, partially somewhat fingerstained, generally well preserved.
