Auftrag v.a. an die südamerikanische Westküste, um dort für französische Militärinteressen zu kartographieren. (Henze) - Vorliegendes Werk beschreibt Beobachtungen hauptsächlich in Peru und Chile, beinhaltet aber auch einen der ersten Berichte von den Falkland-Inseln. Der in der ersten deutschen Ausgabe von 1718 nicht enthaltene Anhang (S. 417ff.) "Herrn Ansons Reise nach der Süd-See" behandelt dessen Piratenfahrt für die engl. Krone in den Jahren 1740 bis 1744. - Papierbedingt gebräunt, tls. gering stockfleckig.

Contemp. calf with red edges, spine gilt and gilt stamped label to spine (somewhat rubbed and bumped, small losses (wormholes) to covers). - The French fortress engineer Frézier travelled on royal commission especially to the South American west coast to map there for French military interests. 'He got to know the coast between Concepción and Callao, drew a series of city and harbour plans (Concepción, Valparaiso, Arica, Callao, Lima) ... His observations complement several times the data of ... L. Feuillée.' (Henze, transl.) - The present work describes observations mainly in Peru and Chile, but also contains one of the first reports from the Falkland Islands. The appendix (pp. 417ff.), not included in the first German edition of 1718, deals with Ansons' pirate voyage for the English crown in the years 1740 to 1744 - Browned due to paper, some minor foxing.
