Manual del librero hispano-americano, Bd. 5, S. 309. - Früher Bericht über die Expedition der Brüder Garcia und Gonzalo Nodal, die im Auftrag des spanischen Königs Philipp III. in den Jahren 1618/19 die Südspitze Amerikas und insbesondere die Magellanstraße erkundeten. "The voyage for the discovery of the Magellan Straits, etc., performed by the two brothers Captains Nodal, with the original map, is one of the rarest books of its class ... The strait of San Vincente had been traversed by Le Maire shortly before the brothers Nodal, and his name has remained to designate it. But the Spanish map has a special value of its own, and is more detailed than Le Maire's." (Sabin) - Hier die mit den wie üblich beigebundenen "Derrotas", d.h. Anweisungen betreffend der Navigation entlang der Küste, maßgeblich erweiterte 2. Ausgabe des zuerst 1621 erschienenen Werks. - Provenienz: Jacquin Fernandez Blanco (1858-1924), chilenischer Politiker, mit auf dem Vorderspiegel montiertem illustriertem Ex Libris "C. Cruz Montt". - Einband an den Kapitale und am Seitensteg mit geringen Läsuren, Rückseite der Karte und Bl. K mit zwei kleinen Tintenflecken, sonst frisches Exemplar mit Rueda's konstrastreich gestochener Karte, diese in der Platte datiert 1769.
Geography and Travel – South America. - With 1 folded copper engraved map von Manuel de Rueda and 3 woodcut text illustrations. - Pionieering account of the expedition of the brothers Nodal sent out by order of Philip III to explore the Straits of Magellan. Present the 2nd edition, but the first to include the important "Derrotas", i.e. instructions for navigation within the Americas. - "The voyage for the discovery of the Magellan Straits, etc., performed by the two brothers Captains Nodal, with the original map, is one of the rarest books of its class ...
