Reise in das Innere von Afrika, vom Vorgebirge der guten Hofnung aus. In den Jahren 1780 bis 85. 1. und 2. Teil i. e. Band. Frankfurt, Fleischer, 1790. 12 Bll. (Titelbl., Vorw.), 317 (1) u. 336 S., 7 Bll. (Reg., Errata). Mit 2 Titelvignetten (Druckermarken) und 11 (v. 12 ?), wovon 7 gefalteten Kupfertafeln. HLdr. des 20. Jh. im Stil d. Zt. mit Rückengoldtit. auf Ldr.-Schildchen, marmor. Vorsätzen und umgehenden Rotschnitt.

Geographie und Reisen – Erste deutsche Ausgabe der ersten Afrika-Reise Le Vaillants, erschienen im Jahr der Erstausgabe. - VD18: 80260039-001. - Kainbacher 267/1. - Engelmann 164. - Henze III, S. 228: "Seine Werke fesselten durch lebhafte, flüssige Diktion und mußten Gemüter mächtig ansprechen, in denen noch Rousseausche Ideen nachklangen. Kein Reiseschriftsteller über Süd-Afrika hat größere Beachtung im westl. Ausland gefunden als er". - Die erste deutsche Ausgabe von Le Vaillants zweiter Afrika-Reise sollte 1797 als Fortsetzung vorliegenden Werks bei Guilhauman mit den Teilbandangaben III-V erscheinen. - Die Tafeln zeigen Landschaften, Tiere und Indigene. - Gemäß Nummerierung fehlt Tafel IV, dieses allerdings auch beim digitalisierten Exemplar der SUB Göttingen. - Das Titelbl. von Tl. 1 in Kopie auf altem Büttenpapier. Teils leicht wasserrandig, finger- und stockfleckig, die Stiche kräftig.
Geography and Travel – With 2 printer's devices and 11 (of 12 ?) copper engraved plates, of which 7 foldings. - First German edition of Le Vaillant's account on his first African journey, published in the year of the first edition. - VD18: 80260039-001. - Kainbacher 267/1. - Engelmann 164. - Henze III, p. 228: "His works captivated with their lively, fluid diction and must have powerfully appealed to minds in which Rousseau's ideas still resonated. No travel writer on South Africa has received greater acclaim in Western countries than he." - The first German edition of Le Vaillant's second African journey was to be published in 1797 by Guilhauman as a continuation of the present work, with parts numbered III-V. - The plates depict landscapes, animals, and indigenous people. - According to the plate numbering, plate IV is missing, although this is e.g. also the case for the digitized copy of Göttingen State and University Library. - Title leaf of part 1 as a copy on old laid paper. Slightly waterstained in places, with dusting and foxing, the engravings are strong.
