Sammlung von über 435 Briefen und Postkarten von und an Marineoffizier Hellmuth von Ruckteschell aus dessen Nachlass. Mit 2 OPhotos, 2 Gouachen, 2 Zeichnungen u.a. Um 1904-1930. Mit zahlr. gelaufenen Umschlägen.

Autographen – Hellmuth von Ruckteschell (Hamburg 1890-1948) trat 1909 der Kaiserlichen Marine als Seekadett bei, war 1916 Wachoffizier und 1917 Befehlshaber mehrerer U-Boote. 1919 verließ er die Marine, da die Siegermächte nach ihm wegen begangener Kriegsverbrechen fahndeten, und floh nach Schweden und Finnland. Nach seiner Rückkehr nach Deutschland unter falschem Namen in den 1920er Jahren machte er eine Schreinerlehre und war bis in die 1930er in Oberneuland bei Bremen als Tischler tätig. 1938 wurde er von der Kriegsmarine zum Kapitänleutnant zur See der Reserve befördert und im Zweiten Weltkrieg einberufen, in dem er u.a. die zwei deutschen Hilfskreuzer "Widder" und "Michel" befehligte. 1943 wurde er Militärattaché an der deutschen Botschaft in Tokyo, die mit der Niederlage Deutschlands im Mai 1945 geschlossen wurde. Von Ruckteschell kam in britische Kriegsgefangenschaft und wurde 1947 wegen der Versenkung von Handelsschiffen zu 10 Jahren Gefängnis verurteilt. Er starb 1948 in der Strafanstalt Fuhlsbüttel. Ein Bruder von ihm war der Bildhauer und Autor Walter von Ruckteschell (1882-1941), seine Schwester Karin die spätere Diakonissin in Kaiserswerth. - Umfangreiche Briefsammlung vorwiegend mit Familienkorrespondenz, darunter ca. 180 Briefe von den Eltern, dem Pastor Nicolai von Ruckteschell und dessen Frau Helene (geb. Baronin Catherina Helene von Engelhardt) aus Hamburg sowie 100 Briefe von Hellmuth v. R. an diese, ca. 50 Briefe von den Geschwistern (meist von Hans v. R., außerdem Roland (1), "Ka" (Karin), Greti) u. ca. 40 an diese, aus der Kadettenanstalt Plön, zur Zeit (seit 1909) als Seekadett bei der Kaiserlichen Marine in Kiel, Groß Lichterfelde u. in Flensburg-Mürwik, Briefe von See auf verschiedenen Schiffen (SMS von der Tann u.a.), aus dem Schützengraben bei Frankreich 1916, von Fort Stosch, aus Schweden (Gunnebo, Porjus) etc. - Außerdem vereinzelt Briefe von Tante u. Onkel sowie von einigen anderen, darunter von Drachenfels (Bremen), "sein Mädel" Edith Liebenschutz (mit 2 Photos), Bruno Goetz, Heinrich von Hartmann (Berlin), Heino von Huth, Tetsuo Kageyama (Kadettenanstalt Hiroshima), Alfred Kuhlenkampff (1884-1969, Farm Onkongue/Namibia), von der Leeden, R. v. Lilienstern, J.P. Müller, Hermann Urtel aus Stolberg (1873-1926, Romanist), Thea Elfriede Warncke u.a. - Dabei: Brief von Ernst Mevert (Schriftsteller) an Joh. Heim wegen der evt. Auswanderung Hellmuths von Ruckteschell mit J.P. Müller nach Paraguay (1919), 2 Telegramme, 5 Visitenkarten. - Tls. auf Briefpapier mit blindgepr. Monogramm, Schreiben des Vaters meist auf Briefpapier u. Karten mit Briefkopf des Pastorats der Friedenskirche in Hamurg-Eilbeck, tls. Feldpost. - Zeichnung von Ruckteschells Unterkunft "Jägerhyddan" in Porjus. - Tls. papierbedingt gebräunt, nur gelegentlich Läsuren (tls. mit Klebeband hinterlegt) oder Flecken, insg. wohlerhalten.

Autographs – Collection of over 435 letters and postcards from and to naval officer Hellmuth von Ruckteschell from his estate. With 2 orig. photos, 2 gouaches, 2 drawings, etc. Around 1904- 1930. With numerous used envelopes. - Hellmuth von Ruckteschell (Hamburg 1890-1948) joined the Imperial Navy as a naval cadet in 1909, was an officer in 1916 and commanded several submarines in 1917. He left the navy in 1919 because the victorious powers were looking for him for war crimes and fled to Sweden and Finland. After returning to Germany under a false name in the 1920s, he completed a carpentry apprenticeship and worked as a carpenter in Oberneuland near Bremen until the 1930s. In 1938, he was promoted by the navy to lieutenant captain in the reserve and was called up for the Second World War, where he commanded the two German auxiliary cruisers 'Widder' and 'Michel'. In 1943, he became military attaché at the German embassy in Tokyo, which was closed with the defeat of Germany in May 1945. Von Ruckteschell was taken prisoner of war by the British and was sentenced to 10 years in prison in 1947 for the sinking of merchant ships. He died in the Fuhlsbüttel prison in 1948. One of his brothers was the sculptor and author Walter von Ruckteschell (1882-1941), his sister Karin later became a deaconess in Kaiserswerth. - Extensive collection of letters mainly with family correspondence, including approx. 180 letters from the parents, the pastor Nicolai von Ruckteschell and his wife Helene (née Baroness Catherina Helene von Engelhardt) from Hamburg as well as 100 letters from Hellmuth v. R. to them, approx. 50 letters from the siblings (mostly from Hans v. R., also Roland (1), 'Ka' (Karin), Greti) and approx. 40 to them, from the cadet school in Plön, at the time (since 1909) as a sea cadet in the Imperial Navy in Kiel, Groß Lichterfelde and in Flensburg-Mürwik, letters from the sea on various ships (SMS von der Tann and others), from the trenches near France in 1916, from Fort Stosch, from Sweden (Gunnebo, Porjus) etc.- Also occ. letters from aunt and uncle and from a few others, including: as listed Above. - In add.: Letter from Ernst Mevert (writer) to Joh. Heim regarding Hellmuth von Ruckteschell's possible emigration with J.P. Müller to Paraguay (1919), 2 telegrams, 5 business cards.- Some on letterhead with blind-stamped monogram, letters from the father mostly on paper and cards with letterhead of the pastorate of the Friedenskirche in Hamurg-Eilbeck, some field post. - Drawing of Ruckteschell's accommodation 'Jägerhyddan' in Porjus. - Partly browned due to paper, only occ. defects (partly backed with adhesive tape) or stains, overall well preserved.
