Synopsis Reptilium Sardiniae indigenorum. (Aus: Memorie della Reale Accademia delle Scienze di Torino, Serie II, Band 1.) Mit 5 Tafeln im Stahlstich, je mit Legenden und teils mit mehreren Figuren, von Pastore und S. Botta nach Comba. O.O., Dr. u. J. (Turin, Selbstvlg. d. Akad., 1839). 30 S. (num. 257-283 (1). 4°. Halb-Maroquin d. Zt. mit goldgepr. RTit., die Decken mit Achatmarmorpapier überzogen.

Zoologie - Herpetologie

Naturwissenschaften – Erste und beeindruckend illustrierte Darstellung der Reptilien Sardiniens. - Adler IV, S. 155 (Erw. Géne als Taxonom). Giuseppe Gené war Lehrstuhlinhaber für Zoologie in Turin, Leiter des Museums dortselbst. Zwischen 1833 und 1838 reiste er insgesamt viermal nach Sardinien, eigentlich um Insekten zu sammeln. Vorliegende Monographie ist seinen herpetologischen Nebenerträgnissen dieser Reisen gewidment. - Die Stahlstiche von außerordentlicher Klarheit und Kontrastschärfe. - Provenienz: Roberto (Massimo) Lawley (1818-81), italienischer Naturforscher und Paläontologe, mit dessen Besitzerstempel und hs. Datierung ("1873") auf S. 257. - Teils leicht stockfleckig, sonst sehr gut erhaltenes, breitrandiges Exemplar dieses sehr seltenen Aufsatzes.

Natural Sciences – Zoology. - Herpetology. - First and impressively illustrated description of the reptiles of Sardinia. - Adler IV, p. 155 (Erw. Géne as taxonomist). - Wiht 5 steel engraved plates, each with legend and in parts with several figures, engraved by Pastore and S. Botta after drawings by Comba. - Giuseppe Gené was professor of zoology in Turin and director of the zoological museum there. Between 1833 and 1838, he travelled to Sardinia a total of four times, primarily to collect insects. This monograph is dedicated to his herpetological findings from these trips. - The steel engravings are exceptionally clear and sharp in contrast. - Provenance: Roberto (Massimo) Lawley (1818-81), Italian naturalist and palaeontologist, with his owner's stamp and handwritten date ('1873') on p. 257. - Some slight foxing, otherwise a very well-preserved copy of this particularly scarce essay, printed with wide margins.
