Naturwissenschaften – Erste Ausgabe. - Nissen IVB, 1006. - Bd. 2 mit hs. Besitzvermerk auf Vorsatz. - Johann Wolfs (1765-1824) Werk zu außergewöhnlichen Tieren und Pflanzen der Naturgeschichte wurde zunächst in 24 Heften veröffentlicht und dann in zwei Bänden zusammengefasst. Der gebürtige Nürnberger war zunächst gelernter Lehrer, widmete sich jedoch später seiner Leidenschaft der Ornithologie. Er erhielt somit den Titel als einer der ersten Ornithologen Deutschlands und veröffentlichte im Jahr 1805 sein Werk zu der deutschen Avifauna. In dem vorliegenden zwei Bänden befasst er sich u. a. mit Vögeln, behandelt jedoch auch weitere Tiere aus allen Tierarten und Lebensräumen sowie teils auch ethnologische Themen. Die detailreichen und prachtvollen Kupferstiche wurden von dem ebenfalls aus Nürnberg stammenden Kupferstecher Johann Christoph Bock gestochen. Viele der Vorlagen für die Stiche stammen von Ambrosius Gabler. - Fehlende Kupferstiche als Ausdrucke in die Bände eingelegt. - Leicht stockfleckig, teils wurmspurig und mit Kleberesten. Insgesamt gut erhalten.

Modern half leather with mounted old spine (slightly bumped). - First edition. - Nissen IVB, 1006. - Johann Wolf's (1765-1824) work on extraordinary animals and plants in natural history was initially published in 24 issues and then compiled into two volumes. Born in Nuremberg, he was initially a trained teacher but later devoted himself to his passion for ornithology. He thus earned the title of one of the first ornithologists in Germany and published his work on German avifauna in 1805. In these two volumes, he deals, among other things, with with birds, but also covers other animals of all species and habitats, as well as some ethnological themes. The detailed and magnificent copperplate engravings were created by Johann Christoph Bock, also from Nuremberg. Many of the engraving templates were created by Ambrosius Gabler. - Missing copperplate engravings inserted into the volumes as prints. - Slightly foxed, partly worm-eaten, and with adhesive residue. Overall, well preserved.
