Neben zahlreichen Werken zur Chirurgie, Geburtshilfe, Anatomie, den Haut- und Geschlechtskrankheiten sowie der Pharmakologie verfaßte er Arbeiten über Themen der Physiologie, Botanik und Chemie, die teils mehrfach aufgelegt wurden und häufig als Lehrbücher Verwendung fanden. Dadurch trug er dazu bei, die seit dem Mittelalter bestehende Kluft zwischen dem akademisch gebildeten Arzt und dem handwerklich ausgebildeten Chirurgen zu überwinden."
