Astronomie

- Teils leicht stockfleckig, erste Bll. etwas wasserrandig.

Natural Sciences – Later commentary on Sacrobosco's De sphaera, first published in 1570. - Cf. Adams 2100 - Clavius was a supporter of the Ptolemaic system and was apparently the first to accuse Copernicus not only of advocating a physically absurd theory, but also of contradicting numerous scriptural passages (DSB III 311). Nevertheless, Clavius had friendly relations with Galileo and was one of the Roman astronomers who wrote to Cardinal Bellarmine in 1611 confirming the discoveries that Galileo Galilei had reported in Sidereus nuncius. - With handwritten comments on the flyleaves. - With stamp on the title page. - Somewhat foxed, first leaves slightly waterstained.
