Kunstwissenschaften – Seltene erste und einzige Ausgabe des kuriosen Buches über Skulpturen aus Schnee. - Ornamentstichsammlung 4222. - Reizendes Werk mit sauber gestochenen, kontrastreichen Kupfern nach Figuren und Szenen der antiken Mythologie darstellenden Entwürfen für monumentale Schneeplastiken, die im Januar 1772 an verschiedenen Orten in Antwerpen modelliert wurden. Die Entwürfe von den Künstlern und Schülern der örtlichen Kunstakademie, J. P. Borreckens, C. D'Olislagers, J. Pompe, J. B. Rubens, F. Van Ussel u. G. Vanden Lieboom, C. Van Dael u.a. Die Texte mit den genauen Standorten der Skulpturen im Stadtbild von Antwerpen. Titel-, Widmungs- (an Charles de Lorraine) und Textblätter zustätzlich mit schlanken, ornamentalen Holzschnittbordüren. - Es fehlen die Taf. 8 und 9. - Taf. 23 u. 24 mit hinterlegten Fehlstellen ohne Beinträchtigung des Drucks. Stellenweise leicht fingerfleckig, an den Rändern mitunter gering staubig, sonst gut erhaltenes, vollrandiges Exemplar dieses kuriosen Titels.

Science of Art – Rare first and only edition of a most curious book about monumental snow sculptures. - Ornamentstichkatalog 4222 - A charming work with neatly executed, high-contrast engravings of designs for monumental snow sculptures depicting figures and scenes from ancient mythology, which were modelled in reality at various locations in Antwerp in January 1772. The designs by the artists and students of the local art academy, J. P. Borreckens, C. D'Olislagers, J. Pompe, J. B. Rubens, F. Van Ussel and G. Vanden Lieboom, C. Van Dael among others. The texts with the exact locations of the sculptures in the Antwerp cityscape. Title, dedication (to Charles de Lorraine) and text pages additionally with slender, ornamental wood-cut borders. - Plates 8 and 9 missing. - Plates 23 and 24 with backed faults, without affecting the printing however. Slightly fingerstained in places, occasionally slightly dusty at margins, otherwise a well-preserved, full-margined copy of this scarce item.
