A Catalogue of Early Colour Printing from Chiaroscuro to Aquatint. 1977 S. 21-23, the Ploos collection S. 55-73. - Das Album enthält alle Drucke einschließlich des Titels, die von Ploos selbst oder unter seiner Aufsicht von seinen Assistenten Bernard Schreuder, Cornelis Brouwer und Johannes Körnlein gedruckt worden sind. - Diese je verso unten links mit der Künstlermarke (das Wappenschild von Ploos van Amstel) (Lugt, L.2725). - Mit einem zusätzlichen, nicht zu dieser Serie gehörenden Druck "Dame bij kaarslicht", der 1821 von Josi veröffentlicht wurde. Ploos (1726-1798) begann seine zweite Karriere in den frühen 1760er Jahren mit der Veröffentlichung von Faksimiles von Zeichnungen in einer von ihm eigens entwickelten Technik. Der Begriff prenttekening (Druckzeichnung) wird in dem 1765 mit seinem ersten Assistenten geschlossenen Vertrag verwendet und blieb bis in die späte Zeit gebräuchlich, obwohl Ploos selbst sie auf seinem Widmungsdruck für die Serie actypa (Abdruck) nannte. - Die Albumseiten mit hs. Bezeichnungen in Bleistift, tls. etw. fleckig. Insgesamt sehr gut erhalten. Die Drucke durchweg prachtvoll und differenziert im Druck, die zeichnerischen Werte eindrucksvoll umsetzend. -- Gerne senden wir Ihnen auf Anfrage eine Auflistung aller enthaltener Drucke einschließlich der Druckzustände zu.

Science of Art – Album with all 46 so-called 'hoofdprenten'. 46 prints after paintings and drawings by Dutch and Flemish artists. Various techniques, aquatint, mezzotint, roulette a.o., some combined. Each spot-mounted to firm D&C BLAUW laid paper album pages (with watermark). Half calf circa 1850, with marbled covers and gilt title label on spine (somewhat scuffed, rubbed and bumped). - The album contains all prints, including the title, which were printed by Ploos himself or under his supervision by his assistants Bernard Schreuder, Cornelis Brouwer and Johannes Körnlein. - These each with the artist's mark on the verso lower left (the coat of arms of Ploos van Amstel) (Lugt, L.2725). - With an additional print which is not part of this series, 'Dame bij kaarslicht', published by Josi in 1821. Ploos (1726-1798) began his second career in the early 1760s with the publication of facsimiles of drawings in a technique he developed himself. The term prenttekening (print drawing) is used in the contract concluded with his first assistant in 1765 and remained in use until late in his career, although Ploos himself called it actypa (impression) on his dedication print for the series. - The album pages with handwritten inscriptions in pencil, some spotting. Overall in very well preserved condition. The prints throughout splendid and differentiated in impression, impressively illustrating the graphic values. -- All the prints included, including print states, are available on request.
