Behandelt kuriose und seltene Objekte sowie überseeische Produkte, wie sie in Wunderkammern oder Naturalienkabinetten der Zeit zu finden waren: Mineralien, Metalle, Versteinerungen und Erden, zahlreiche Tiere und Pflanzen, Muscheln, Gewürze und ihre Anwendung in Medizin, Technik und Haushalt, Fundstücke aus der Antike, anatomische Kuriositäten etc. - Mit ausführlichen Kapiteln über Kaffee, Kakao, Seide, Tabak, Vanille u.a. - Teil 3 beschreibt Erfindungen und Instrumende aus Physik und Technik, darunter Barometer, Fernglas, Luftschiff, Mikroskop u.a., im Anhang mit ausführlicher Abhandlung über die Wünschelrute nach Vallemont (Klinckowstroem 61 f.). - Enthält zudem ausführliche Beschreibungen berühmter Wunderkammern mit Liste der Exponate. - Etw. gebräunt u. durchgängig mit großem, meist schwachen Wasserrand, gelegentlich in den Rändern schwach sporfleckig, vereinzelt etw. stockfleckig. Vortitel von Bd. 1 mit Loch im weißen Rand, vorderer fliegender Vorsatz von Bd. 1 außen etw. beschnitten, vereinzelt mit hinterlegten Defekten. Insgesamt sehr gut erhalten mit durchweg prachtvollen Kupferillustrationen und Tafeln in kräftigem Abdruck.

Cont. vellum bindings with mount. label on spine (scuffed, rubbed and bumped, stained). Relevant edition of the extensive and richly illustrated repertory, vol. 2 (II. tomus divided into two and three volumes) in first edition. Treats curious and rare objects as well as overseas products as they were found in cabinets of curiosities or natural history cabinets of the time: Minerals, metals, fossils and earths, numerous animals and plants, shells, spices and their use in medicine, technology and the household, artefacts from antiquity, anatomical curiosities, etc. - Somewhat browned and with large, mostly faint waterstain throughout, occasional faint spotting in margins, occasional foxing. Front cover of vol. 1 with hole in white margin, front flyleaf of vol. 1 somewhat trimmed on the outside. Overall in very good condition with splendid engraved illustrations and plates in strong impression throughout.
