Holzschnittporträt stammen von Jörg Breu, die 2 weiteren Holzschnitte kopiert nach einer Lucidarius-Ausgabe. - "Aristoteles (...) billigte der körperlichen Gesundheit eine wichtige Rolle für moralisches und intelligentes Handeln zu. Er war der Ansicht, dass geistige und körperliche Gesundheit eng miteinander verbunden seien: Zur Ausübung der charakteristischen menschlichen Fähigkeiten - Vernunft, Sprache, sittliches und gesellschaftliches Leben und Handeln - bedürfe es einer gesunden körperlichen Grundlage, wohingegen umgekehrt ein ungesunder gesitiger Zustand (etwa Stress oder Depressivität) negativ auf den Körper einwirken könnte." (Philip van der Eijk, in: Dtsch. Ärztebl. 2011, 108(44): A-2330 / B-1966 / C-1944). - Enthält Kapitel der verschiedensten Richtungen, so u.a. über Hygiene, Philosophie, die Kunst des Herrschens, über botanische und astrolog. Vorstellungen aus griech.-persischen Schriften etc. - Titelbl. mit umfangreich. zeitgen. Anmerkungen, erste u. letzte Bll. etw. wasserrandig. Insgesamt wohlerhaltenes Exemplar mit den Holzschnitten in kräftigen Abdrucken.

Prints before 1600, Bibles, Classics in Original Languages – With large woodcut title, large woodcut portrait of Alexander the Great on the back of the title page and 2 further woodcuts. Modern half vellum with label on spine (somewhat stained, slightly discoloured in the margins). - First German edition of the Secreta Secretorum, which had a great influence on the works falsely attributed to Aristotle. - Woodcut title and woodcut portrait by Jörg Breu, the 2 other woodcuts copied from a Lucidarius edition. - Contains chapters of various directions, e.g. on hygiene, philosophy, the art of ruling, on botanical and astrological ideas from Greek-Persian writings etc. - Title page with numerous contemporary annotations, first and last few pages somewhat waterstained. Overall well preserved copy with the woodcuts in strong prints.
