RTitel (leicht verblasst ) mit Deckel- u. Eckbeschlägen u. Schließen (berieben, beschabt u. fleckig, Rücken minimal u. unauffällig wurmspurig, VDeckel mit kl. Fehlstelle im Bezug).

Schmidt, 219. - Enthält das gesamte Alte Testament und die Apocrypha. - Konkurrenzausgabe zur gleichzeitig erscheinenden überarbeiteten Wittenberg-Bibel. Die Wittenberger Verleger brachten Luther dazu, über Herzog Heinrich von Sachsen den Bibeldruck in Leipzig zu unterbinden, aber Herzog Heinrich verhängte nur ein Moratorium von einem Jahr." (Vgl. Thibault-Döring/Fuchs, 2017, S. 19). In seiner Textfassung übernahm Wolrab jene der Wittenberger, die Gestaltung der Bibel änderte er jedoch stark ab und lies blattgroße Holzschnitte von Lucas Cranach dem Jüngeren fertigen. - Titelbl. mit hs. Vermerk. Im Rand tls. etw. wasserrandig. Papierbedingt zart u. gleichmäßig gebräunt und teils etw. stockfleckig. Vereinzelt mit Marginalien und Unterstreichungen. Insgesamt sauberes u. wohlerhaltenes Exemplar dieser seltenen Ausgabe.

Prints before 1600, Bibles, Classics in Original Languages – Biblia Germanica - Parts 1-5 in 1 vol. with numerous woodcuts, some full-page, by Cranach the Younger and others, and title page in red and black. Cont. blindtooled pigskin on 4 bands over bevelled wooden boards, handwritten title on spine (slightly faded) with cover and corner mountings and clasps (rubbed, scuffed and spotted, spine minimally and unremarkably worm-marked, cover with small defect). - Contains the entire Old Testament and the Apocrypha. - Competing edition to the revised Wittenberg Bible published at the same time. In his version of the text, Wolrab adopted that of the Wittenbergers, but he changed the design of the Bible considerably and had sheet-sized woodcuts made by Lucas Cranach the Younger. - Title-page with a handwritten note. Some waterstains in margins. Paper conditionally delicately and evenly browned and partly somewhat foxed. Occasional marginalia and underlining. Overall a clean and well preserved copy of this rare edition.
